What Is
Verde Valley Caregivers?

The Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition (VVC) is a Non-Profit Organization with a small paid staff, a larger staff of Office Volunteers, a very active Board of Directors and a wonderful group of Volunteers providing services to our "Neighbors". In 2008, VVC was serving approximately 800 "Neighbors" with the services of 186 Volunteers and over 400 Guardian Angel Units were in "Neighbor's" homes. New "Neighbors" are being added daily and new Volunteers are always welcome.

Verde Valley Caregivers is an active member of the
Sedona Chamber of Commerce.

HOW VVC'S SERVICES WORK

When a "Neighbor" calls Verde Valley Caregivers with a request for some service, e.g. transportation for a doctor's appointment, a VVC Office Volunteer records the request information. This usually includes the date, time & location of the appointment and its approximate length.

The Office Volunteer calls VVC's list of volunteers in the same geographic area who have agreed to provide the type of service requested. When an available Volunteer is found, VVC gives them the "Neighbor's" name, phone number, address and directions. The Volunteer then calls the "Neighbor" to let them know that they will be helping them and make any final arrangements regarding the service.

We ask our "Neighbors" to please call 48 hours ahead of time so we can more successfully find an available Volunteer to assist them.

HISTORY OF VVC

The Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition (VVC) was organized in 1992 by six local churches, the two area hospitals, the regional retirement facility and health center, as well as representatives of community organizations and agencies. The specific goal of VVC was to serve persons who are homebound or in handicapping situations with services that would increase their independence and allow them to stay in their homes.

The initial goal of VVC was to initiate a Volunteer Caregivers Program, also known as VoCaP, within the Verde Valley. In 1993, services available in the Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek with all Verde Valley communities added one year later.

Next came the Guardian Angel Program (GAP) that loans personal assistance security systems to persons living alone and the Adult Children and Aging Parents Support Group which meets once a month.

In 1998 the GATEKEEPER Project joined the list of VVC programs. GATEKEEPERS is designed to train non-traditional referral sources to be aware of changes in their customers and clients and then report this to VVC for appropriate referrals.
(This program is currently inactive.)
