Verde Valley Caregivers Volunteer Opportunities
Have 2 to 3 hours to volunteer? Can you imagine NOT being able to get to a doctor's appointment or reach a light bulb? Would you like to make a difference in someone's life?
Becoming a member of our volunteer family will give you the opportunity to provide services for people needing a helping hand. Your assistance will increase a neighbor's independence and allow them to stay in their homes.
As one volunteer said, "I look forward to each new assignment. It just makes me feel good to do what is right and decent. Who knows when the day will come when I need a ride?"
The following list of Direct and Indirect Services are ways in which you can truly make a difference! Click here for our Volunteer Form - - let us know the services you'd like to volunteer for!
Direct Service Opportunities
Direct Services are ways we assist a 'Neighbor' in some personal activity. These include:
The Friendly Phoner's role is to enhance the quality of life of a 'Neighbor' through regular telephone visits that offer encouragement, friendship, companionship, and support.
The Friendly Visitor's role is to enhance the quality of life of a 'Neighbor' through regular visits to the 'Neighbor's' home that offer encouragement, companionship, and support.
The Respite Caregiver's role is to assist a 'Neighbor' by providing relief to the primary caregiver and companionship to the 'Neighbor'. Hands-On care is not permitted.
The Shopping/For Volunteer shops for a 'Neighbor' who is not able to go to the store. This is limited to grocery shopping and standard errands such as the bank and drug store.
The Shopping/With Volunteer transports the 'Neighbor' and assists in purchasing groceries and other items.
The Transportation Caregiver gives a 'Neighbor' a ride to and from necessary appointments and services. These 'Neighbors' have no personal means of transportation and are traveling to medical services, social service appointments, the pharmacy, hair salon, or to do their own shopping. They must be able to enter and exit an auto with minimal assistance with no lifting on the part of the caregiver. Wheelchairs are not transported.
The Handyperson's role is to assist a 'Neighbor' in completing minor home repairs. 'Neighbors' pay for all parts and supplies.
Referrals - The Verde Valley Caregivers office will provide information about other organizations that offer services we cannot provide.
Guardian Angel Install: Going to a 'Neighbor's' home to install and program a Guardian Angel Unit and explain to the 'Neighbor' how it works.
Guardian Angel Check: Going to a 'Neighbor's' home to check or reprogram a Guardian Angel Unit.
Guardian Angel Retrieval: Going to a 'Neighbor's' home to pick up a Guardian Angel Unit after it is no longer needed.
Indirect Service Opportunities
Indirect Services are ways of assisting a 'Neighbor' by helping at the Verde Valley Caregivers office or Silver Linings Thrift Shop. These include:
- Neighbor Interview: Going to a new Neighbor's home and getting the information necessary to include the 'Neighbor' in VVCC's files and making sure the 'Neighbor' understands what services we provide and how to request those services.
- Office Work, Clerical & Services:There are two office work facets. One is clerical, helping one morning or afternoon a week on tasks that include mailings, filing, etc. The other facet is "services," taking Neighbors' phone requests for assistance and finding a Volunteer to fill the service request.
- Our Thrift Shop in Sedona:4 hour shifts available.
- Board of Directors: Serving on Verde Valley Caregivers' Board, which is the governing body.
- Special Events/Committees: Being part of the planning teams or working at VVCC events.
