For many of our donors, legacy giving is the perfect way to express support for our mission—to support adults in need of assistance to maintain their independence. Legacy gifts help us recruit more volunteers and provide supportive services to those in need, such as grocery shopping, transportation to medical appointments, friendly visitation and our Guardian Angel personal security alert program.
Legacy gifts may provide financial benefits to donors, too. Tax savings, cash payments, supplemental support for family members—these and other benefits are available depending on the unique circumstances of the individual donor.
We encourage you to contemplate including Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition in your estate plan. This approach to giving has provided vital support for our mission. Please consider these methods of support:
Will or Living Trust
There are several ways to make a bequest to VVCC:
We suggest the following language to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding:
Bequest of Specific Amount
"I hereby give and bequeath to Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition, a non-profit organization located at 299 Van Deren Ste 2, Sedona, Arizona 86336. Tax I.D. #86-0725787, the sum of $_______________ to be used for its general purposes."
For a gift other than cash, simply describe the assets.
For a Remainder of Estate
"I hereby give and bequeath to Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition, a non-profit organization located at 299 Van Deren Ste 2, Sedona, Arizona 86336, Tax I.D. 86-0725787, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal to be used for its general purposes."
A Gift of Life Insurance
Using life insurance to make a gift to VVCC to help the senior members of our community may allow you to make a larger gift than you thought possible.
As you grow older, the need for protection from life insurance often diminishes. Your policy has served its original purpose - protecting your loved ones in the event of your death - and can now be used in other ways; making a charitable gift is one of them.
To donate life insurance:
By assigning ownership of your policy to VVCC, you are eligible to claim a deduction for income tax purposes. The deduction is based on the present value or the cash surrender value of the policy, whichever is less, up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. Any excess of that amount can be carried over and deducted for five additional years, within the limitations of the law.
You can also opt to continue paying premiums, name VVCC as beneficiary, and take a charitable tax deduction for the premiums you pay. If you purchase a new policy and name VVCC as owner and beneficiary, you can take a tax deduction for the premiums you pay, and the value of the policy will be removed from your estate at your death, reducing your estate taxes.
Please consult your financial or legal advisor to ensure that you select the best giving option for your personal circumstances. Please contact us with any questions you may have about how to support the mission of VVCC.
Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition, established in 1992, began offering supportive services to 80 adults in need through the service of 50 volunteers.
In 2013, VVCC provided services in nine communities to over 1,900 older adults through the service of 300 volunteers.
By 2015, VVCC expects to serve 3,000 adults in need—65% of the older adult population we serve are 85 years and older—and 50% of the older adults we serve are living at or below the poverty level.
VVCC now provides assistance to those with pets including transportation to vet appointments, feeding and dog walking!
Leaving a Legacy to VVCC will help us serve our rapidly growing older adult population now and into the future!
